Giverny

Chez Monet

I fell in love with Monet's Water Lilies when I first saw it at the National Gallery. I remember being enthralled by it; movement and stillness captured on a square of canvas. Walking the grounds of Giverny felt like walking through a Monet painting, but with the smell of flowers in bloom, birds chirping overhead and the bubbling brook beside. It was a feeling of calm and one can very readily see the hint of Japanese aestheticism that influenced Monet's work; Art is emotion without desire.
