Nameless Station

The auguries, the inaugurations

Proceed at vast expense, banquet after banquet.
A fire of the mind is invoked, and this is what
We must live with as the century raises itself
On crippled limbs to proclaim victory.
Neither Alexander nor Trajan Combined
Such arrogance with ignorance
But in the end, what difference does it make?
Persepolis burned, and Fallujah is emptied
~ John Ash, The Parthian Stations.

and today Bush chastised Democrats for taking their Easter break without unconditionally approving his Iraq War bill. As the Economist says, let's hope he realize saving the situation is much more important than saving his own face/ass.

When the 2nd Gulf War broke out, The Economist championed the invasion of Iraq on the grounds that Saddam had to go. I thought that was politically naive of the paper. Not that I've lost faith in the paper or stopped reading it. Politicians never see beyond their term. Especially cowboy politicians who like riding shotgun. At the end of the day it all boils down to the lessons that you learnt back in play school. You mess up, you clean up.
