Padi Fields Forever

How long will the terraced padi fields be there?
Do the rules of economics provide for sentimentalism and tradition?
As much as this picture appears to be timeless, easily fitting into any period from the begining of terraced rice cultivation up to now, it reminds me that Change is the only constant. It won't be long before a hotel, resort, housing project covers this plot of land.
Now I know why anti globalisation protestors are always royally pissed off by MNCs. It would pain me to see this field covered with cement. It is easy for us Singaporeans to not feel for the land we live on. After all we were all born into a concrete jungle.
